Weekend Adventures--Warrenton, Virginia

I really enjoy taking daytrips on the weekends, but I haven't had all that many opportunities so far this summer--at least until today!  Today's trip was just a last minute drive to Warrenton, Virginia, about a half hour from where I live.  Warrenton has a little downtown area I really like and a nice antique mall.  During today's trip I did get to stop at the antique mall and saw a few fun things to share:

Lots of pretty cups and saucers:

I don't normally buy cups and saucers unless they are a really good deal (or Christmas themed).  I usually stick to buying tea trios, but unfortunately I didn't see any this trip.

I saw these beautiful depression glass dessert glasses:
I just love depression glass in pastel colors!

Next we went to old town Warrenton, where we walked up to the local town museum.  As many times as we've been to Warrenton, we had never gone in the museum before.

This museum was in the old county jail, dating to about 1808.  Inside there were exhibits about local history and also some fun exhibits about women's fashion.

We also made a stop in the kitchen of the buildings (the old jail only served for a brief period--it was later converted into a home and a newer jail was built behind the building.  Interestingly, each of the jails only had 2 rooms each to house the incarcerated).  Do you see the kettle on the arm so that it could be set over the fire to boil?

There was a small little gift shop in the front entrance of the jail.  I was immediately drawn to the lavender products, including tea, from a local lavender farm.

We walked back up the hill towards the little town to stop at my favorite Irish Pub for lunch, passing the court buildings on the way.

This is a statute of John Marshall, the fourth and longest serving Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, serving from 1801 to 1835, who was born in Fauquier County, Virginia (Warrenton is the seat of Fauquier County).  As another fun trivia fact, John Marshall and I share the same Alma Mater.

  1. Sounds like a lovely day all around, with an antique store, museum, and lunch. Love to see the old fashions in the museum. Thanks for sharing Carrie.

  2. This is my kind of outing too Carrie. I love to browse antiques and think about the loving hands that used them so long ago. The clothing would have been of interest as we don't have many displays other than the Royal Ontario Museum.
