Asian Tea Table

I was in an antique store a couple of weeks ago and saw an Asian tea set on top of what was called a "tea table."  I'm not sure if it really is one or not, but I thought it was really cool.

(Sorry that the picture quality isn't that good, this was taken while I was in the shop)

The table had very interesting details on the legs and was a pretty dark cherry color.

This particular antique store I don't go into that often because the prices are a bit high.  The antique store is located in a house built in the early 1800s, and looking around you can see some of the old details (like a tin ceiling), which is one of my favorite parts of visiting.  Unfortunately, it is very full and has stuff everywhere with bad lighting, so it isn't the easiest store to look through. I probably keep going back more because I associate the store with the "dishes that got away."  When I first starting collecting, I went in this store (also for the first time) and found a group of 5 Shelley sets in dainty shapes but with different patterns, along with some extra plates.  The owner offered them all to me for just a bit above $100, but I didn't realize how cool Shelley was and how collectible and I just wanted one, so I talked him into letting me by one of them for $20.  Oh well :(.  It just wasn't meant to be.

  1. Ahh, the ones that got away -- do I have some stories! Love the table, however and it does remind me of a colonial tea table.
