Counties Louth and Dublin

This morning we drove from Belfast back into the Republic of Ireland, to see the burial mounds at Bru na Boinne.

We saw the Knowth mounds, which is one very large mound surrounded by lots of small ones.  They date to the bronze age.

The carvings on the rocks around the mounds was also very interesting...what were they saying?

 We even went in!

We could even climb (stairs) to the top of the mound.

After seeing the mounds, we stopped for lunch in the cafeteria at the visitor center before looking around the museum.

(Sausage roll!)

From there we drove to Dublin to our hotel in the suburbs, which we were very disappointed with, but at least it was right by the dart train station. We got here by 4 or so, and headed to catch the train after we put down our stuff and waited for our big bags. We went to see two sights opened past 5--first Christ church cathedral.

Our second stop was the National Gallery of art,

(Yeats)
(Picasso)

before heading up to temple bar, the nightlife street for dinner.

After we finished eating (and had a couple pints),

we headed up to the river Liffy for photos

 (including Hapenny Bridge)

before heading back by train to our suburb hotel and heading in for the night.

  1. • I remember feeling supremely ignorant and uncultured because I'd never even heard of the Knowth burial mounds before reading the itinerary for this trip, haha. They were interesting, but hard to capture in photographs.
    • Love the panorama in Photo No. 15. Ireland is so scenic, *sniffle*. Actually, wasn't this tour literally called "Scenic Ireland"? LOL.
    • Ah, the Dart train. Didn't we almost take it in the wrong direction at first? I think we asked a kind stranger for confirmation managed to dash to the other platform just in the nick of time. Transportation is so fun.
    • Christ Church Cathedral... sans hamburger tent, which turned out to be misleading. :-P. The interior of this church is quite pretty, so it was worth the second visit.
    • I like Photo No. 34! V. symmetrical, just how I like them!
    • And Photo No. 39 is also really cool.
    • Yay, my dinner finally appeared in the background of your photo! I had stew with a side order of extreme guilt because there was lamb in it. Delish, though!
    • Photo No. 55 is super-neat, like a weird watercolor painting.
    • Again with the separate beds in our hotel room! I'd forgotten how spoiled we were on this trip.
